Boston (SmartAboutHealth) - U.S. health officials have confirmed that they have found traces of the toxic chemical melamine in infant formula in the United States.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed that the toxic chemical was found after they tested a sample for a second time.

This allowed them to back-up previous findings and confirm that the chemmical was indeed in the infant formula.

Trace levels of the toxic chemical were found, but officials do not feel that the levels are not high enough to pose any harm.

The levels were also found to be in elderly supplements as well.

Melamine hit the radar in a major way in China after it was added to milk and other products, causing the deaths of infants.

The FDA has not confirmed which manufacturer made the formula.
