Boston (SmartAboutHealth) - James Maki, the second resident of the US to undergo a face transplant just wants to lead a life as close to normal as possible.

He was in dire need of the procedure after mangling his face upon falling on an electrical subway line in Boston.

He underwent the procedure back on April 9, and since then has been slowly but surely recovering.

He has been staying at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston where doctors have been closely monitoring his recovery.

Asking for a mirror 4 days after his operation, Maki said he is surprised how much he looks like his former self.

He will remain in hospital for about another week before being discharged.
