Boston (SmartAboutHealth) - Researchers have found that vitamin D may be the key to preventing heart disease.
Researchers were led by Dr. James H. O’Keefe from the Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City and found that vitamin D plays a major role in heart health.
They looked at adults and compared their vitamin D intake to their risk of heart disease.
What they found was that those who lacked vitamin D saw their risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiac events double.
The biggest issue though is that researchers believe the majority of adults do not get enough vitamin D on a daily basis.
What this means is that by increasing vitamin D intake across the board, it could do wonders to prevent heart disease.
The study is featured in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
