Washington (SmartAboutHealth) - Researchers have found a link between a diet low in carbohydrates or low-carb and memory loss.
The researchers were led by Prof. Holly Taylor of Tufts University in Massachusetts.
For the study, they focused on a total of 19 women between the ages of 22 to 55. They had half on a balanced low-calorie diet, and the other half on a low-carb diet.
They then tested then after a week to see how the diets impacted their cognitive abilities.
What they found was that those on the low-carb diet scored far lower in terms of memory loss, and overall brain power.
When they then put these same people on the balanced low-calorie diet instead of the low-carb diet, their scores went back up.
They conclused that a low-carb diet can negatively impact your cognitive abilities.
