Washington (SmartAboutHealth) - Researchers have found that a potentially deadly bacteria is becoming quite common in U.S. hospitals. The bacteria is known as Clostridium difficile, or C. difficile.
Researchers were led by Dr. William Jarvis and focused on a total of 650 different hospitals in the U.S.
They found the bacteria to be very common as it was found to impact 13 out of every 1,000 hospitalized patients, 20 times higher than previously estimated.
The bacteria is potentially deadly and can cause severe diarrhea, as well as intestinal problems.
It is believed that the bacteria leads to the death of 300 patients daily in hospitals across the U.S.
