Boston (SmartAboutHealth) - Researchers have found that genetic testing is not yet helpful in being able to diagnose and predict type 2 diabetes.
This week marked the release of studies in the New England Journal of Medicine which tried to see if genetic testing could help with the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.
Researchers were led by Dr. James Meigs from Harvard Medical School.
The study focused on on 2,377 people for over 30-years, looking at 18 different gene variations.
These gene variations have all been linked to type 2 diabetes in the past.
What they found though was that the genetic testing was not anymore effective than an assessment by a doctor.
The genetic testing could however prove to be effective long-term for children to predict their risk of the disease.
