The belief is that by making HIV screening more routine it will help pick up on more cases of the virus.

The American College of Physicians (ACP) has announced new guidelines on World AIDS Day.

They are pushing to make HIV testing routine all patients older than 13-years old.

There are over 1 million people in the U.S. who have HIV, and many more who do not know they have the virus.

The longer it goes undetected, the more risk they face themselves, as well as others they are with.

The ACP is pushing to offer screenings to all patients and on a case-by-case basis go forward from there.

The guidelines have been published in the Annals of Internal Medicine Web Site.
