Washington (SmartAboutHealth) - Researchers have come out and revealed that personality or psychiatric disorders are very common among college-aged young adults in the U.S.
Researchers from the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and Columbia University carried out the study on 5,000 young adults from 2001 and 2002.
What they found was that half of college-aged adults in the U.S. had a psychiatric disorder.
On top of that, 20% of young adults saw their quality of life decrease due to the disorders.
Researchers have found that these types of psychiatric disorders are far more common in the U.S. than previously believed, and under 25% are getting treatment.
The study has been published in the December issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry.
