Washington (SmartAboutHealth) - Self-embedding disorder is becoming far more common among teens, and is very harmful to their health.
Self-embedding disorder takes place when teens embed themselves with foreign objects.
These objects can be anything from a needle, rock, nail, etc.
This has sparked researchers to seek new treatments to help fight the disorder.
Radiologists in the U.S. have tested a new type of treatment to remove foreign objects. The researchers from the Nationwide Children’s Hospital used imaging from an ultrasound to find the objects.
They were then able to remove them using a minimally-invasive procedure.
This was done on 19 different cases of self-embedding in 10 teenage girls, and was a big success.
