Washington (SmartAboutHealth) - The American Lung Association has released their State of Tobacco Control 2008 report, showing which states failed to control tobacco.
The hope is that each and every year the federal government and states will do all they can to prevent tobacco use and illnesses caused by tobacco.
According to the report though, many states in the U.S. did not do such a good job in doing so last year.
What they found was that the federal government received a grade of F for a few things.
This includes not allowing the FDA to have regulatory power over tobacco, raise cigarette taxes, etc.
Many states also received an overall grade of F, including Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, West Virginia.
Some states did much better, with Rhode Island, Hawaii, Maine, and Massachusetts at the top of the list.
