NYC Group Seeks Attention to HIV Among Women

20080520_aids_ribbonBoston (SmartAboutHealth) - According to recent reports, a New York City based AIDS organization is planning to gather on the footsteps of City Hall to seek attention to what the group is calling “alarming” HIV infection rates among girls and women.

The members of the organization seek demands of better sex education in schools and more developed HIV prevention and treatment services.

According to the the city’s health department, NY remains the country’s “epicenter” for HIV/AIDS.

With 1 in 3 females being infected with HIV, 90 percent of the HIV-postive women are black or Latina. It is also said that 94 percent are teenage girls.
