Washington (SmartAboutHealth) - According to a new study, acid reflux medication does not help people improve their asthma symptoms.
For a few decades, this type of acid reflux medications, which helps with heartburn, was used for asthma patients.
The theory behind it was that it was believed that many asthma attacks were thought to be caused by acid reflux.
A new study though has proven that this may not be the case, as experts are now urging asthma sufferers to stop using these drugs.
Researchers from American Lung Association’s Asthma Clinical Research Center in the U.S. carried out the study to compare the drugs to a placebo.
The drug esomeprazole went head to head with a placebo to see how asthma patients would react.
Researchers found that there was no benefit to the drugs in terms of helping asthma patients.
The study has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
