Mumps is a disease that is no longer very common in the U.S., but that hasn’t stopped it from causing some major issues this week in New York and New Jersey.

The New York Department of Health has come out and confirmed that there have been 57 confirmed cases of the mumps since the middle of August.

The majority of the cases are said to be centered in the Brooklyn, New York area.

On top of that, there have also been roughly 30 cases of the mumps confirmed in the state of New Jersey as well since August.

This is a growing problem as the mumps is a very dangerous disease with symptoms including swelling of the glands, fever, aching, loss of appetite, headache, etc.

Many of those in Brooklyn who have come down with the mumps were immunized, meaning it has gotten around the highly-effective vaccine.

There is no treatment other than to let the disease do its thing and pass.
