Drug-Resistant TB Being Seen As World Threat By WHO

tb_global_threatWashington (SmartAboutHealth) - According to a new report, drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) is seen as a threat to the entire world by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO has come out released some new estimates in regards to the number of people who have been impacted by drug-resistant TB around the world.

What they has estimated is that in the year 2008, over 150,000 people died from the disease.

On top of that, it is estimated that around 500,000 people are infected with drug-resistant TB.

Multiple drug-resistant TB or MDR-TB is commin in many places around the world, such as India, Russia, as well as China.

The fear is that over time the infection rate will increase, causing more deaths around the world.

This form of TB is one of the most deadly, but still not quite as hard to treat as XDR-TB, known as extensively drug-resistant TB.

Reports released by the WHO has shown that aggressive treatment of the disease can cure millions.

Over time, this aggressive treatment will have to continue to take care of this global threat.
