public_pools_unsafeWashington (SmartAboutHealth) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has come out with a new study that has revealed that over 12% of public pools in the U.S. have so much junk in them that they are actually unsafe to use.

The summer months are pretty much here, and with that said, it is time for public pools to open up once again for those warm months.

A new CDC study has put a warning out there to parents though to let them know that many of these pools may not actually be safe enough to swin in.

The CDC has gone around the U.S. and has tested public pools, and what they have found is that 12.5% of them, or 1 out of every 8, is actually unsafe to use.

The public pools which ended up being seen as the most unsafe were public kids pools.

The problem with these pools is that the chlorination and use of other chemicals in them was not at the right levels.

On top of that, the CDC also managed to detect fecal traces i n a lot of the pools.

Overall, when you combine all of these factors, the level of bacteria made the pool absolutely unsafe for kids to swin in.

The CDC is going to be working hard to get public pools up to safer standards.

As of right now though, it appears that heading into the summer, they may not be the safest place to swim.
