vitamin_d_exercise_alzheimersBoston (SmartAboutHealth) - Two new studies have revealed that a little exercise and vitamin D can help you fight off Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The studies focused on different ways to help reduce the risk and progression of cognitive decline.

The first study of the pair had researchers focus on a group of 1,200 people, all around the age of 70 or above. The study took place in Framingham, MA and revolved around the level of exercise that people in this town attained.

What they found by watching exercise levels was that those who were able to take part in heavy amounts of exercise reduced their risk for Alzheimer’s and dementia by 40%.

Researchers concluded in this study that those who got very little exercise were nearly 50% more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than those who were in the heavy exercise group.

The second study was where vitamin D kicked in, as it took place in the U.K. and focused on over 3,300 people who were 65 an dolder.

What researchers found in this study by monitoring vitamin D levels was that those who were considered to be vitamin D deficient were over 40% more likely to develop Alzheimer’s and dementia than those who had plenty of vitamin D in their system.

These findings are consistent with previous studies released in regards to Alzheimer’s and dementia prevention.

The new studies are likely going to shape larger recommendations in terms of ways to prevent cognitive decline, as these seem to be the trends with these types of studies.
