Washington (SmartAboutHealth) - A new study has revealed that vitamin D plays a major role in the health of your heart.
It has long been known that vitamin D can help your body in many ways, such as through making your bones stronger. A new study though has found that it is key to heart health as well.
Researchers were led by by Dr. James H. O’Keefe from the Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City and focused on vitamin D intake.
What they found was that those who had a vitamin D deficiency saw their risk of heart attack, stroke, or other cadiac events double.
On top of that, they found that 50% of adults are vitamin D deficient.
The same goes for 30% of children in the U.S.
The study will be published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
