Boston (SmartAboutHealth) - A new study has found no difference at all between generic and brand name heart drugs.
Researchers from the Harvard Medical School and Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital carried out the study by focusing on all types of heart drugs from different drug classes.
These heart drugs were used to treat conditions such as chest pain, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, cholesterol, clotting, etc.
Researchers analyzed 47 different studies from 1984 to 2008 in order to come up with their results.
They concluded that there was no difference at all between the generic heart drugs and the brand name heart drugs.
Their effectiveness was found to be the same across the board for the classes of drugs such as beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, statins, and blood thinners.
The study will be published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
