FDA Approves Ilaris For Rare Inflammatory Condition

The FDA have just approved a new drug made by Novartis for the treatment of auto-inflammatory disease
Ottawa - The FDA have just approved a new drug made by Novartis for the treatment of auto-inflammatory disease.

The disease which is rare can be potentially fatal and is called cryopyrin-associated periodic syndrome.

The name of the drug is Ilaris and it is the first approved drug for children as young as 4 who are diagnosed with the condition.

The disease is genetic, caused by a single gene mutation that results in the overproduction of interleukin-1.

Symptomes associated with the condition include; fatigue, rash and fever, head aches and joint pain.

More serious health risks associated with the disease include; deafness, bone and joint deformities and even death.
