Boston (SmartAboutHealth) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has a big decision to make as they need to decide whether or not they should pull the diabetes drug Avandia from the market.
GlaxoSmithKline PLC, the maker of Avandia, is hopeful that they will be able to surpass these major obstacles set before them.
Avandia is surrounded by a great deal of debate due to the fact that studies have linked to it an increased risk of heart attack.
Whatever the FDA decides about this drug could also weigh in on future decisions about other similar drugs, such as Actos from Takeda Pharmaceutical Co.
The FDA has a lot of work ahead of them as they need to make a major decision in regards to drug safety, and how much they will adhere to studies set before them.
Avandia was seen as a great tool in the fight against diabetes when it was first released, but has been met with great controversy since then.
A lot will be known once the FDA convenes tomorrow to discuss the future of this drug.
