Daily News Service - Results of a new study in the Lancet find that childhood diabetes cases are being reported at an alarming rate in Europe, with
no slow down in the near future.
According to researchers, the number of children under the age of 5 with diabetes is going to skyrocket over the next 15 years, by as much as 100 percent
when all is said and done.
Researchers of the study from Ireland and Hungary, say that the reason for the massive influx in diabetes in young children is down to lifestyle options,
prodominantly their diet.
The researchers stated that not only are children under 5 developing diabetes at an alarming rate, but older children are following a similar pattern.
The researchers estimate that if numbers continue to increase, in the year 2020, 24400 new cases of diabetes will be reported in children under the age
of 15.
If this number is close to being realistic, then in the year of 2020, there will be more than 159,000 cases of type 1 diabetes in children under the age
of 15.
